Van B. Honeycutt, Computer Sciences Corp.’s chairman, president and chief executive, gained a new title last week: chairman of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.
After announcing Honeycutt’s appointment in a Washington ceremony, Defense Secretary William Cohen gave the Los Angeles executive a symbolic gavel. Honeycutt has served on the committee since April 1995 and will take over from Charles R. Lee, GTE Corp.’s chairman and chief executive.
The NSTAC advises the president on security and telecommunications issues from an industry point of view. Previous committee chairs have come from AT&T;, Sprint and General Electric. Honeycutt is the first information technology executive to head the organization.
