The Report Card: Web pages contain an amazing amount of free information about all California public schools. More than 70 data fields report everything from the number of classrooms in a school with Internet access to the percentage of children in the school that receive federal Aid to Families with Dependent Children.
You can order reports for individual schools or entire districts.
The Department of Education recently added “Data Quest” to its Web site, a feature enabling users to create reports about enrollment, graduation, dropout and staffing levels. Unfortunately, this feature is not integrated into the Ed-Data Partnership home page, but officials say it will be eventually. Right now, you can look at the department’s home page at https://www.cde.ca.gov, then click on “Educational Demographics.”
Room for Improvement: If you print out the information on 8 1/2-by-11-inch paper, you won’t be able to see the final column of information in the school profiles. Print is often small and difficult to read. Doesn’t include names of administrators or school address.
Price: Free.
Rating: Based on ease of use and potential usefulness to Southern California home buyers and parents: 3 1/2 apples out of a possible four.
