County survey--A story Saturday incorrectly reported the scope of a forthcoming survey of drivers who use California 118. The survey is intended to find out how regional users feel about widening the highway.

Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin & Associates, a public opinion polling company, will be calling residents in January to find out what they think about two proposed Caltrans projects--the widening of the intersection of Somis Road and California 118 and the straightening of an S-curve near Rio Mesa High School.

“They will be asked questions about whether they feel the roads are dangerous, if they support improving and widening, and how they feel about a proposed bike path,” said Samia Maximus, director of highway and planning programs with VCTC. “It is common to do a survey at the beginning of a project to identify what residents are looking for.” She said the projects would be tailored accordingly.

A contingent of Somis residents has opposed Caltrans plans for the Somis Road intersection, saying it would bring congestion.
