With a heavy heart, Valencia High finally lifted a huge weight from its back Friday night.
The Vikings, a week after the death of their team manager, posted their first-ever victory over rival Hart, 67-46, in a Foothill League opener at Hart.
Sophomore Will Broadous scored 19 points and Royce Minor added 18 for Valencia (8-9), which wore black wrist bands in honor of Sean Williams, who died in a Val Verde house fire. Williams’ funeral is today.
Eskias McDaniel scored 11 points for Valencia.
Tamir Barkan had 18 points for Hart (11-6), which has won three consecutive Foothill championships and seven of the last eight.
