VENTURA — A man was airlifted to an area hospital Sunday after he broke his leg while jet skiing.
Harbor patrol authorities said they were called out just after 1 p.m. to rescue Dean Garcia, who had been in the ocean with two other friends about 200 yards north of the mouth of the Ventura River.
Garcia told authorities he was riding the craft when it hit a wave, throwing him into the air. He held onto the handlebars and came down on the craft with great force, said Scott Miller, operations manager for the Ventura County Harbor Patrol.
Garcia was able to swim to a beach while friend Maria Seiarrotta-Johnson summoned the Harbor Patrol.
Garcia was flown by helicopter to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was listed in fair and stable condition Sunday night.
