NEW YORK — A horse that pulls tourist carriages was electrocuted on a Manhattan street when it stepped on a metal plate covering an electrical utility’s service box.
A combination of wet weather and salt spread on the street to melt snow and ice may have produced a short circuit.
Jackie, a 9-year-old mare, was heading for a stable when she died Friday at Madison Avenue and 59th Street, said police Sgt. Ellen Tietjen.
There were no passengers. Jackie’s driver, Stephen Hand, suffered minor injuries.
