Steve Esparza/Wrestling, Calvary Chapel/Sophomore
Esparza was named MVP of the lower weights at the Five Counties tournament after winning the 112-pound division. The fourth-seeded Esparza, who raised his seasonal record to 26-5, defeated Fremont Mission’s Randy Katz, 2-1, in the finals. Esparza, who lost to Katz last year at Five Counties, scored his winning points with a two-point reversal in the second period.
Alexander Huff/Basketball; St. Margaret’s/Junior
Averaged 28 points, 16 rebounds, 7.7 assists as Tartans won two of three games.
David Kelemen/Soccer; Kennedy/Junior
Scored three goals in the Fighting Irish’s 6-1 upset of second-ranked El Dorado.
Jose Leon/Wrestling; Santa Ana/Senior
Won Five Counties at 119 pounds with upset of Brethren Christian’s Mike Simpson.
