The City Council will hold a public hearing tonight about the Planning Commission’s approval of a plan to reestablish a weekend swap meet at the former Orange Drive-In site on North State College Boulevard.
Mayor Joanne Coontz said she appealed the Planning Commission’s decision because of the area’s commercial potential. “We’re pro-business, but we’re trying to bring in the best development,” she said.
The proposed swap meet would contain about 670 vendor stalls and 1,099 parking spaces and draw between 5,000 and 8,000 visitors each day of business.
The public hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at 300 E. Chapman Ave.
