SOFTBALL
* Kaysie Thompson of La Habra has signed to play next season at Brigham Young-Hawaii, Highlander Coach Sue Briquelet said.
Thompson, an All-Freeway League catcher, batted .347 with 17 runs batted in and 15 runs scored.
SOCCER
* Mario Sanchez has been hired to coach boys’ soccer at Northwood High, Athletic Director Rick Curtis said. Sanchez, who graduated from Fresno State, has been a club coach with the Irvine Lazers.
BASEBALL
* Brian Jones of Golden West College and Fountain Valley High has signed a letter of intent to play at Biola, the school announced.
FOOTBALL
* Tom Nelson, Santa Ana College defensive coordinator the last 11 seasons, will take a similar position at El Camino. Nelson will have a full-time position at El Camino. Benny Rapp will take over at defensive coordinator for Santa Ana.
