3.1 Quake Reported

OCOTILLO, Calif. — An earthquake rattled a rural area of Imperial County on Monday evening, but there were no reports of injuries or damage, authorities said.
The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.1 and struck at 6:37 p.m. 15 miles southwest of Ocotillo, said seismologist Joe Franck of Caltech. It was not an aftershock, he said.
There were no reports of injury or damage, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department said.
Ocotillo is about 95 miles east of San Diego.
