7 Officers Charged in Youths’ Slayings

Seven police officers were charged with murdering three youths in a case that has shocked even violence-weary Brazil. Police discovered the bodies of the youths, ages 14 to 21, in a marshy forest in Praia Grande, 45 miles south of Sao Paulo. The three were last seen being forced into a police van after a dance at the end of Carnival celebrations in mid-February, according to witness accounts published in newspapers.
