Tip for Cabbie Inspires Tip for Police on Heist

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A big tip is usually welcome, but this one for a short trip to a bank was big enough to make cabdriver Travis Vaughn a little suspicious.
Vaughn picked a passenger up at a house Friday morning, drove him to a bank branch, then took him back.
He said the man was in and out of the bank in what seemed like a minute.
Vaughn said he wasn’t suspicious until the guy handed him a $50 bill for the $8.60 fare and told him to keep the change.
Wayne R. Thomas, 40, was arrested on a charge of armed robbery after police identified him from surveillance videos.
