Rock Artist

Many thanks for your continued coverage of the arts. “Finding Art In a Rocky Situation” (March 1) devoted a large photo and many column inches to a homeless man, Fernando Anglero, who creates rock sculptures in a vacant lot in downtown Los Angeles. This fellow has found peace and a balance through his artful musings, a valuable lesson for everyone. However, I personally would like to read more about the hard-working Los Angeles artists, the ones who juggle several jobs and make great sacrifices in order to pursue their vision. That would be an inspiring story. They are the real heroes.

A homeless man stacks rocks, and some call it art. So The Times prints an article legitimizing this activity as having merit? Yikes! The guy lost his job and lives in a dirt lot. He left three children without a father and a wife alone to raise them. He is stacking rocks, instead of getting his act together. The real story is about his poor wife and what she does to keep a roof and food for her family.
