* Re “Nigeria Ready for Government to Work,” news analysis, March 9: Thank you for the excellent coverage on Nigeria’s recent elections. While we rejoice in the election results, we must be vigilant about the winner, retired army Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo. He was a member of the military establishment that has mismanaged the country during the past 30 years to its present economic decline.
The people who supported his election are the same elite who have looted the treasury and amassed fortunes at the expense of ordinary Nigerians. He will never gain the acceptance of the vast majority of Nigerians unless he deals with the issues of corruption, scarcity of electricity and shortages of petroleum-related products.
To Obasanjo: During your stint in 1976-79 as head of state, where is the money allocated to Operation Feed the Nation? It can be found in his farm at Otta.
Nigerians need leaders who are principled enough to lead us into the next millennium.
