New Offices Urged for Pasadena School Board

PASADENA — The massive, gothic headquarters of the Board of Education should be sold and a more practical site found, a committee has recommended.
A spokeswoman for the Pasadena Unified School District said it will hold a series of public meetings before deciding on the recommendation by the facilities committee, which includes many prominent city leaders.
The District Administrative Center at Hudson and Del Mar avenues is estimated to be worth at least $4.5 million. According to a committee report, the building needs significant repairs and is inefficient.
“It is recommended that the district dispose of this site and use the proceeds to either lease or purchase a more efficient, cost-effective, District Administrative Center,” the committee concluded.
It also suggested that the district build two more elementary schools and sell a number of other district properties.
