Van Nuys 4, North Hollywood 3--Junior Ayala scored the winning run from second base on a catcher’s throwing error in the bottom of the seventh of a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park.

Ayala (1-1) struck out three in three innings in relief of starter Jose Jimenez to earn the victory. Ayala doubled in the seventh and moved to third on a passed ball.

Shane Mochizuki doubled and tripled for Van Nuys (3-3, 1-1).

Sylmar 6, Monroe 2--Chris Avendano hit a grand slam in the fourth inning for Sylmar (6-1, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe (1-6, 0-2).

Chatsworth 5, San Fernando 2--Jeff Spector’s two-run single ignited a three-run fifth inning that decided a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

Charles Kenny and Steve Kracow also had run-scoring singles for Chatsworth (7-1, 2-0).

Mike Kunes (2-1) notched his third complete game, striking out six and scattering six hits.

Granada Hills 13, Taft 5--Dan Frisbee had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for Granada Hills (6-1, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft (3-4, 0-2).

Jon Bringuier had three hits and drove in one run for Granada Hills.

Camarillo 4, Hueneme 3--Steve Wyman’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Scorpions (5-2, 1-1) in a Pacific View League game at Camarillo.

Garrett Valencia had a two-run single in the first for Camarillo.
