A man died Thursday after he lost control of his car and the vehicle slammed into a tree, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The accident occurred about 5:45 p.m. in the 7200 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue near Van Nuys Airport, according to Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The middle-aged man was driving a late-model, mid-sized car southbound when the car struck two vehicles before hitting the tree, Humphrey said. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the cause of the crash was under investigation. It was not certain whether rain had contributed to the accident, they said.
