County’s Stand on Developments

Re “County Vows to Fight Development,” March 24.
Ventura County is like the Great White Father who speaks with forked tongue. On one hand they are protesting, via a potential lawsuit, the development of Newhall Ranch on the border between Ventura County and Los Angeles County. With the other hand they are promoting the development of the Ahmanson Ranch property, likewise bordering both counties.
In the Newhall Ranch case they are arguing that the new development will deplete ground water availability for Ventura’s citrus groves and increase air pollution, but they have no concern that their Ahmanson Ranch development will increase water usage and add to L.A. County air pollution by greatly increased traffic. All this while taking full advantage of all the tax revenues created by the new development.
Poor Ventura County!
