Three beaches closed last week because of a 6,000-gallon sewage spill have been reopened. Orange County health officials prohibited swimming near Peter’s Landing, Sunset Aquatic Park and Portofino Circle after a pipeline under an apartment complex in Stanton broke and leaked sewage into a storm drain that runs into the Bolsa Chica channel, said Alyce Mastrianni, director of quality management and planning at the Orange County Health Care Agency. Officials detected the spill May 17, and no one was permitted in the water until testing showed acceptable levels of contaminants, she said.
