Shortstop Adam Kennedy (Cal State Northridge) hit a two-run home run, his sixth, for Memphis (Cardinals). . . . Second baseman J.P. Roberge (St. Francis) had three hits, including a double, and three runs batted in for Omaha (Royals). . . . Center fielder Gary Matthews (Granada Hills, Mission College) homered for Las Vegas (Padres) in an 8-0 victory over Colorado Springs (Rockies). Reliever Mike Rossiter (Burroughs) struck out three in 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the Rockies.
Double A--Bowie (Orioles) right-hander Josh Towers (Hueneme, Oxnard College) survived two two-run homers in the fourth inning to beat Norwich, 7-5. Towers (5-2) gave up four hits and struck out four in six innings. . . . Left fielder Ryan Stromsborg (Notre Dame) had a double and home run to drive in the only runs for Knoxville (Blue Jays) in an 11-2 loss to Huntsville.
Class A--Right-hander Jon Garland (Kennedy) allowed eight hits and two runs, and struck out four in seven innings for Winston-Salem (White Sox) in a 4-2 victory over Wilmington. . . . Right fielder Eric Cole (Antelope Valley High, Antelope Valley College) had three hits, including his sixth home run, for Kissimmee (Astros).
