A Rock Concert? A New Ride? No, Another Krispy Kreme Line

Got a few hours to kill on Tuesday?
That’s the length of time it will probably take to get your hands on a Krispy Kreme doughnut when the chain opens a store at the Block of Orange--the chain’s second Orange County location. If previous openings in La Habra and Van Nuys are any indication, the line of devotees seeking fresh, hot doughnuts will already be quite long by the time the outlet opens for business at 5:30 a.m.
To make the wait more pleasant, the new store will offer live music on opening day, said Roger Glickman, president of Great Circle Foods of Los Angeles, which has an agreement to develop 42 stores in Southern California over several years.
Glickman said he has been working with police in Orange as well as landlord Mills Corp. to try to avoid traffic or parking problems. “We regret in some ways that our guests have to spend so much time in line and we try and make it as pleasurable as possible to continue to gain their loyalty,” he said.
Although Krispy Kreme is a new phenomenon to Californians, the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based chain was been in business 63 years. It began expanding beyond the Southeast region only five years ago.
Next month, a store will open at Ontario Mills, with more outlets scheduled to open early next year in Long Beach and Huntington Park.
