The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to take steps toward better water quality at a water quality workshop.
The council will mail letters to several surrounding inland cities requesting polluted water from storm drains be stopped from flowing into Aliso Creek.
They will also send letters to the Aliso Water Management Agency and the South Coast Water District requesting backup systems be implemented to prevent future sewage spills.
In addition to the letter-writing campaign, the council will adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding spills reaching Laguna’s water courses.
Last, the council will ask the Emerald Bay Service District to adopt a diversion program for runoff water in the summer months.
