Weekend Reading
“How to Hide Money from Your Husband ... and Other Time-Honored Ways to Build a Nest Egg,” by Heidi Evans (Simon & Schuster, $20). Wall Street Journal reporter Heidi Evans raises a host of legal and ethical issues with some of her advice and tactics, which she calls “the best-kept secret of marriage.” Evans’ contention is that separate and, if necessary, secret savings are a necessity in an era when many marriages fail. One could easily ask, however, whether keeping secrets might itself lead to a few divorces. On the other hand, the chapter on tactics husbands have traditionally used to hide assets could be eye-opening to any spouse who may be facing divorce and who is not a full partner in the marriage’s financial arrangements.
