Warrick, Coles Questioned in Theft

Florida State wide receivers Peter Warrick--a leading Heisman Trophy candidate--and Laveranues Coles were questioned by authorities about a theft at a local department store.
Scott Hunt, a spokesman for the Tallahassee Police Department, said that two Florida State players “are going to be witnesses or suspects,” although he declined to identify them.

Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden was rewarded with a $500,000 raise and a contract that will keep him at the school through 2004. Bowden will earn $1.5 million per year. . . . Jacksonville State football coach Mike Williams resigned, carrying through with comments he made about quitting following last weekend’s loss to Samford. . . . Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez will miss his team’s game Saturday at Minnesota because he will undergo knee replacement surgery today at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and will be confined to a hospital bed for at least four days.
