No Commuting

Hooray for Myrna Oliver (“Commuting Sentences,” Oct. 8)! Finally, someone who agrees with us. When we first arrived in L.A., we moved into Park La Brea temporarily in order to figure out what neighborhood would be best for us. That was 15 years ago.
Why move when we can walk to work, museums, theater and even grocery shopping? Sure, folks think we’re strange because we only have one car. But not everyone’s American Dream includes owning a wide expanse of house or lawn. Sometimes the American Dream is a 10-minute walk home at sunset that gives you time to hum a tune and say hello to a neighbor. Try doing that on a freeway.
