The City Council may have to amend its budget to cover a whirlwind of legal activity that has used up about $80,000 of the city’s $100,000 budget for attorney fees, city officials said this week.
The city’s budget includes a line item for special legal services that go beyond the usual city attorney functions, Finance Director Susan Hartman said. The amount is figured using comparisons of attorney fees from past years and is intended to last the entire budget year.
This year’s fund, not even four months into the fiscal year, has almost been used up.
“That particular line item is very near depletion,” Hartman said.
The outside attorney fund contained $100,000 at the start of July. As of Wednesday, the fund had about $19,000.
