The Orange Unified School District Board of Trustees will hold a public forum Tuesday to discuss an El Modena High School student’s request to form the district’s first gay/lesbian/straight organization called the Gay Straight Alliance Club.
The forum will take place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at McPherson Magnet School, 333 S. Prospect St.
According to the proposed organization’s mission statement, the club’s goal is to “raise public awareness and promote tolerance by providing a safe forum for discussion of issues related to sexual orientation and homophobia.”
The club encourages all members to join in discussions and other social activities that will “counterattack unfair treatment and prejudice,” according to the mission statement.
