Placentia’s old oil reserves in the southeastern part of the city will make way for an upscale residential development.
The City Council voted 3 to 1 Tuesday to rezone the 51 acres southeast of Rose Drive and Alta Vista Street for 183 houses and a commercial center. Councilman Norman Eckenrode opposed the project, citing concerns with the grading and the construction of a storm drain. Councilwoman Maria Moreno abstained, saying she wanted more information.
Residents in the area supported the project, which they expect to help retain the higher property values in that neighborhood.
School district officials, meanwhile, have said they don’t expect any problems accommodating the 180 or so students expected to come from the development.
