CHICAGO — One of the 11 Puerto Rican nationalists granted clemency by President Clinton says she will continue her activism, but in a humane way.
Alejandrina Torres, 60, freed after serving 16 years of a 35-year sentence for seditious conspiracy, said she will “continue the process of reconciliation we’ve begun. No matter how difficult the task is, we’ll achieve it because we’ve been called to freedom.”
Torres spoke Sunday at a church where her husband, the Rev. Jose A. Torres, once served as pastor.
Six people were killed and dozens were wounded in a wave of bombings of U.S. civilian and military targets from 1974 to 1983. The attacks were linked to the Armed Forces of National Liberation, or FALN.
