SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Clausen Strikes It Big: Eight Scoring Passes in 75-7 Romp

Casey Clausen has enjoyed big games in his high school football career, but nothing quite like he had Friday night.

The senior quarterback completed 15 of 24 passes for 327 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Indians to a 75-7 rout over host Torrance in a tuneup for their showdown next week with Notre Dame.

Alemany (3-0) took a 54-0 halftime lead and was ahead, 75-0, with 3:24 remaining in the third quarter, when Coach Jim Bonds emptied the bench. The Indians did not attempt a pass in the fourth quarter and punted only once in the game.

The contest bore little resemblance to last year’s meeting, when Alemany won a hard-fought 27-13 victory over Torrance.

“We expected [Torrance] to come out and fight hard,” Bonds said. “But we were able to come out and execute everything we wanted.”

Alemany scored touchdowns on its first six possessions.

Running back De’Andre Scott scored three touchdowns on passes of 78 yards from Clausen, 42 yards from Rick Clausen, Casey’s junior brother, and on a 59-yard run. Scott finished with three catches for 135 yards and ran for 138 yards in 11 carries.

Wide receiver Derek Goodman had touchdown receptions of 20, 15 and nine yards from Casey Clausen, all in the first half. Goodman finished with seven catches for 98 yards.

Bryan Wilson caught touchdown passes from Casey Clausen covering 18 and six yards. In three games, Clausen has passed for 899 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Torrance (0-3) did not score until four seconds left in the third quarter. The Tartars finished with only 126 total yards.

Alemany, ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, will play at top-ranked Notre Dame next Friday night.

“Notre Dame is always one of the best-coached teams in our area, but we’ll be ready for the Knights,” Bonds said.
