Primedia Inc., publisher of Seventeen, New York and other publications, named Thomas Rogers, president of General Electric Co.’s NBC Cable unit, chairman and chief executive. Rogers succeeds company founder William Reilly, who is retiring.
New York-based Primedia, which is controlled by the investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., said it plans to expand its Internet operations, print and video brands. Rogers was a founder of the CNBC financial news cable television channel and helped establish the MSNBC cable channel venture with Microsoft Corp. and several Internet businesses.
Primedia was considering creating two Internet companies to operate its 200 Web sites that use magazine content, a person familiar with its plans said in April.
