An apartment blaze that started when a car engine caught fire left more than 30 people temporarily homeless Saturday in Orange, authorities said.
The blaze, which caused $200,000 in damage, started at 4:12 p.m. in the carport of an apartment complex in the 800 block of North Glassell Street. Flames quickly spread to other vehicles and apartments, according to Orange Fire Department officials.
About 45 firefighters spent 20 minutes battling the flames, as thick, black smoke bellowed into the afternoon air. No injuries were reported, but 24 adults and nine children were displaced, officials said. The American Red Cross is helping the homeless find accommodations.
