“Wonderland,” ABC’s controversial drama about the psychiatric ward of a fictional Manhattan hospital, has been pulled off the schedule after just two broadcasts.
An ABC spokesman said the drama will be off at least through May sweeps.
The drama, which was developed by actor-writer Peter Berg, who used to star in “Chicago Hope,” was critically acclaimed and admired. However, it was trounced in its two airings Thursdays at 10 p.m. as it went up against NBC’s powerhouse “ER.” Also, the series came under fire from mental health professionals who said it was insulting to the mentally ill.
The network will replace “Wonderland” this Thursday with an ABC News special, “Vanished,” and the following Thursday with the newsmagazine “20/20 Downtown.”
