The city will participate in a Sheriff’s Department checkpoint program aimed at catching people driving without licenses or with suspended licenses.
The City Council on Wednesday gave unanimous approval, authorizing the Sheriff’s Department to operate the Traffic Violator Apprehension Program within city limits.
The program initially will be funded by a state grant, then it will fund itself through recovery fees from the owners of impounded cars, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The program has also been approved by the Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano city councils.
