SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

A statue of the Fifth Station, depicting Jesus and Simon of Cyrene, was temporarily installed Friday morning in front of the Mission San Juan Capistrano parish church.
The formal unveiling of the statue is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with Bishop Jaime Soto participating in the event.
The statue is part of the traditional 14 Stations of the Cross, or stopping places, on Jesus’ path from condemnation by Pilate to his death at Calvary.
Each of the stations, which are being created by the Via Dolorosa Society in San Diego, will be a life-size, three-dimensional depiction in bronze.
When all of the stations are completed sometime next year, they will be moved to San Luis Rey Mission in Oceanside.
