May Will Miss Long Beach

Misty May, who clinched a spot on the U.S. Olympic women’s beach volleyball team last weekend with partner Holly McPeak, will not play at the Beach Volleyball America event this weekend in Long Beach because of a stomach muscle strain, tour officials announced.
McPeak will play at Long Beach with Carrie Busch.
May, formerly of Newport Harbor High and Long Beach State, suffered the injury July 9 at the BVA’s Seal Beach Open, which she and McPeak won.
Last weekend, May and McPeak finished second at the FIVB tournament in Dalian, China, to clinch the Olympic bid. Former UCLA standouts Liz Masakayan and Elaine Youngs, formerly of El Toro High, defeated May and McPeak in the final, 15-7.
Masakayan will also sit out the Long Beach event and Youngs will play with Nancy Reno. Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan, the top-ranked U.S. team which also earned an Olympic berth, will play in Long Beach.
