NHL All-Star Game Expected to Boost L.A.’s Economy

“The Coolest Game on Earth” is expected to pump at least $10 million in cold hard cash into the local economy when the National Hockey League hosts the 2002 All-Star Game at Staples Center. More than 5,500 out-of-town hockey fans and media representatives are expected to travel to Los Angeles for the event and generate roughly 8,200 overnight hotel stays, the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission is forecasting in a new report. The last time Los Angeles hosted the NHL All-Star Game was in 1981.
