A woman who apparently drowned and washed ashore in Newport Beach has been identified as Krystal Michelle Light, 23, of Long Beach, police said Sunday.
A beachcomber found Light’s body in the surf line near 28th Street at 6:54 a.m. Friday. She was clad only in blue jeans, police said.
An autopsy indicated that Light had died about two hours earlier.
On Saturday, a Newport Beach Police parking control officer found Light’s Honda Civic parked near the beach where her body was discovered. Light’s identification was inside the car, police said.
The circumstances surrounding Light’s death are still under investigation, Newport Beach Police Lt. Andy Gonis said.
Gonis would not say whether authorities believe Light suffered any injuries before she drowned.
The Orange County Coroner’s Office is awaiting the results of a test to determine if Light was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
