Heredia, Garden Grove Steal a 45-43 Victory Over Santiago

Gloria Heredia’s steal and three-point play with 28 seconds remaining gave Garden Grove a 45-43 victory over Santiago in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game Friday at Garden Grove.
Heredia stole the ball, drove for a layup, drew a foul and made the free throw to put the Argonauts ahead, 44-43. Jill Nakagawa sealed the victory with a free throw in the final seconds.
Garden Grove (11-13, 7-3) is third in the league, a half-game behind Santiago (16-9, 8-3).
In the Century League:
No. 8 Foothill 67, Santa Ana Valley 45--Chavaughn Brown scored 18 points for Foothill (17-7, 8-0) and Kristen Mann added 14 points and six assists.
Crystal Davis scored 11 points and had nine rebounds for Santa Ana Valley (16-6, 5-3).
Villa Park 59, Orange 31--The Spartans held Orange scoreless in the first quarter and took a 24-0 lead. Liesl Bielefeld scored 19 points, including three three-pointers, and had five rebounds for Villa Park.
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 61, Buena Park 17--Ranay Dato had 19 points and eight rebounds for third-place La Habra (12-12, 5-3). Diana Fukushima added 17 points and Mira Carberry scored six points and had 10 rebounds.
Sonora 49, Sunny Hills 36--Brandi Davis had 13 points, and Cathy Ngo added 11 points and five steals for host Sonora (15-9, 6-2). Kristen Fong scored 19 points for Sunny Hills (10-13, 4-4).
No. 1 Troy 67, Fullerton 16--With their 14th consecutive victory, the host Warriors (21-3, 8-0) clinched at least a share of the league title. Veronica Johns-Richardson scored a game-high 22 points. Fullerton fell to 4-17, 1-6.
