Blaze Damages Shops in Complex

Several business owners have been temporarily displaced after a fire damaged a strip mall Tuesday night, authorities said.
The blaze in the 7500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard began about 11:20 p.m. in the attic area of one of the stores, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The complex includes a pawnshop, dental office, bakery and liquor store. While some shop owners pledged they would reopen this week, others may not be as fortunate.
“I have no idea when we will be back,” said Humberto Acosta, who runs La Rosa Blanca bakery.
Acosta rummaged through the debris Wednesday. Some equipment was still intact, but he didn’t know if it was still operational.
“We could be shut down for two to three months,” he said.
About 75 firefighters responding to the blaze extinguished the flames within 40 minutes.
Total damage to the businesses is estimated at $400,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
