Sister Follows Sibling in Winning Award

* Honor student Lauren Murray, a recent graduate of Chaparral Middle School in Moorpark, won the American Legion School Award. She will attend Moorpark High School in the fall. Her sister Jennifer was the recipient of the award last year. Lauren and Jennifer are the first siblings to win the award, according to the legion and school officials.

Garden Club Names Scholarship Winners

* The Westlake Village Garden Club announced the winners of its scholarship awards. Ventura College students Derek Flynn, Justin Kephart and Chad Toves will receive $1,000 each.

Rotary Club Announces 3 Award Winners

* Rotary Club of Ventura-East announced the winners of its awards program:

Vocational Service Award--Beth Fruchey for her work with teachers and students.

Youth Service Award--Mark Smith for his work as coordinator of the Rotary Club’s Buena High School Interact Club.

Presidential Award--Jan Lindsay for his performance as club president, 1999-2000.
