The UPN television network plans to change its name to the Paramount Network.
The new moniker will provide a closer association with the Paramount entertainment brand, network officials said. The change goes into effect Jan. 1, 2001.
UPN--United Paramount Network--started in 1995 as a venture between Viacom Inc.’s Paramount Television Group and Chris-Craft Industries Inc.’s TV station unit.
In March, Chris-Craft agreed to sell its half interest in the network to Viacom for $5 million.
The UPN name had represented Chris-Craft subsidiary United Stations and Paramount, said Dean Valentine, UPN president and chief executive.
