The City Council has declared this month Drowning Prevention and Awareness Month.
“Unfortunately, it’s that time of the year,” Councilwoman Linda Lindholm said.
One thing the public needs to know is that children can drown without making a sound, Lindholm said. “If you can’t find [your children], the first place you check is the pool,” she said.
The city’s three fire stations have water safety kits available for the public. Station No. 5 is at 23600 Pacific Island Drive, No. 49 is at 31461 Street of the Golden Lantern and No. 39 is at 24241 Avila Road.
