More Victoria Secrets

We enjoyed Carl Duncan’s article “Victoria’s Secrets” (May 28). As frequent visitors to Vancouver and Victoria, we would like to add a few items:
It is easy and inexpensive to take a bus from Vancouver via the ferry to downtown Victoria. The Victoria bus station is beside the Empress Hotel. There are many hotels in this area, from budget to deluxe. We like the Crystal Court Motel, across the street from the bus station. It was built in the 1940s and has full kitchens.
A less expensive way to go to Butchart Gardens is to take the Victoria city bus, which stops behind the Empress and at the garden’s ticket booth. Before touring the gardens, make reservations for afternoon tea, which is authentic and surpasses the Empress’.
A visit to the nearby, pretty town of Oak Bay is interesting and easy via the Victoria city bus. It is a short walk to the beautiful waterfront. The town has shopping, a tearoom and restaurants offering good meals devoid of cute and quaint.
