The western end of the city will soon have another storm drain emptying into Aliso Creek.
On Tuesday, the City Council decided to hire an engineering company to extend the Gates Elementary School-area storm drain along Alanwood Street to connect to the creek.
Local environmentalists say runoff from lawns and streets has made Aliso Creek one of the region’s most polluted waterways.
The storm drain extension will cost the city about $120,250, staff reports said.
