Murphy Gets Slim Edge in San Diego Race

SAN DIEGO — In the competition to face county Supervisor Ron Roberts in a November mayoral runoff election, Superior Court Judge Dick Murphy edged ahead of banker Peter Q. Davis on Thursday as election workers counted 26,000 absentee ballots.
With about 15,000 ballots still to be counted, Murphy led Davis by 175 votes. Those ballots will be counted Monday, election officials said.
Roberts placed first in Tuesday’s 12-person mayoral primary, with 25.5% of the vote. Davis and Murphy were virtually deadlocked with 15%.
All three leading candidates are Republicans.
