No. 8 Fountain Valley Wins in Swimming

Jack Yarbrough and Brandon Dotts each won multiple events for host Fountain Valley as the eighth-ranked Barons defeated No. 5 El Toro in boys’ nonleague swimming Friday.
Yarbrough won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute 51.58 seconds, the 100 freestyle (51.52) and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:31.92). Dotts took firsts in the 200 individual medley (2:00.95), 100 backstroke (56.33) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.97) and 400 free relay. Fountain Valley is 5-0.
In the Canyon boys’ relays:
Villa Park wins--The Spartans won four of the seven events to win with 112 points. Santa Margarita was second (96) and Canyon third (76).
In the Canyon girls’ relays:
Canyon wins--The Comanches won four events and set two meet records to win with 106 points. Santa Margarita was second (92) and Villa Park was third (82).
Canyon’s time of 4:08.12 in the 400 medley relay broke the 1997 record by eight seconds. The Comanches’ other record came in the 200 backstroke relay, finishing in 1:54.85 and breaking the 1994 mark by four seconds. Santa Margarita also set a meet record, besting its mark of 1:57.42 last year in the 200 medley relay by three seconds.
In Sea View League girls’ swimming:
No. 1 Irvine 94, No. 8 Foothill 76--Irvine came away with two relay victories (200 medley and freestyle) as Stephanie Hsaio anchored both relay teams and won the 50 freestyle (24.53). Ashley Gore was a double winner for Irvine, taking the 200 freestyle (2:01.68) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.27).
Foothill freshman Gabbie Domanic won the 200 individual medley (2:18.10) and teammate Ashley Henson, also a freshman, won the 100 freestyle in 54.06.
