Reed Helps Moorpark Take Five

Forward T.K Reed had 14 points and 11 assists to help Moorpark College defeat Cerro Coso, 83-68, Saturday and win the Cerro Coso men’s basketball tournament in Ridgecrest for the fifth consecutive season.

Reed was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.

Forward Brian Smith, an all-tournament selection, had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Simmagin Smith added 13 points for Moorpark (2-0).

Trevor Lorz had 11 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Raiders, who never trailed and led, 42-34, at halftime.

The Master’s 84, Florida College 59--Kenny Jackson and Jacy Armbruster each scored 17 points for the Mustangs (3-0) in a first-round game of The Master’s tournament.

Tyler Hoffman added 13 points for Master’s, which led, 51-29, at halftime.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 85, Biola 40--Guard Erin Buescher and sophomore center Lesley DuBois each scored 19 points to lead the Mustangs in a nonconference victory at Master’s.

Melynda McNicol added 12 points for Master’s (2-1), which outscored Biola, 50-17, in the second half.

Antelope Valley 81, Foothill 67--Reserve center Shalon Fields had 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots to give Coach John Taylor his first victory for the Marauders (1-1) in the Santa Barbara tournament consolation final.

Tina Carrillo also scored 17 points for Antelope Valley, making four of six three-point shots.

Taylor compiled a 144-93 record in seven seasons as head coach at Valley College.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Pacific 6, Pepperdine 4--Chris Tilden scored twice for the No. 7-ranked Waves, who rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the fourth quarter at Pacific.

Michael Soltis made three saves, and Sean Hylton and Peter Joseph scored for the Waves (11-10).
