Festival OKs Two-Thirds Votes for Moves

Laguna Beach’s Festival of Arts has changed its bylaws to require approval of two-thirds of its voting members for any attempt to relocate the popular summer event, festival officials announced Friday.
Of the 1,315 members who cast mail-in ballots in a special election that ended Nov. 1, 64% approved the bylaws amendment.
“The members will now have an important voice in the decision in case a future board tries again to move the festival out of Laguna Beach,” member Anita Mangels said. “The vote demonstrates widespread support to keep it in town.”
Five of the festival’s board members were recalled last month and left office Tuesday after they tried to move the 68-year-old institution to San Clemente.
The Committee to Keep the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach Inc. began a drive in May to change the bylaws. The new rules take effect at the board’s Tuesday meeting.
