Deputy INS Chief Takes Over, for Now

Deputy Commissioner Mary Ann Wyrsch was named acting commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service after her boss resigned. Wyrsch will serve until there is a new presidential appointment and Senate confirmation of an immigration chief, which is not expected before the next administration takes office. Wyrsch succeeds Doris Meissner, who left after seven years to return to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
